Moodaly-Salgado Thrilled to Wear Banyana Colours Again
By Malose Wa Ga Lamola
JvW midfielder Robyn Moodaly-Salgado has returned to the Banyana Banyana fold after three years away, citing personal reasons for her absence from international football.
The Johannesburg-born star is pleased to be back in the national team setup and assesses Banyana Banyana's chances in the upcoming Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, which begins this weekend. With Jermaine Seopasenwe having retired from international football, the addition of the experienced Moodaly-Salgado will undoubtedly fill the void left by Monterey's star attacker.

South African national team coach Dr. Desiree Ellis included Moodaly-Salgado, known as 'Robz,' in her 23-player WAFCON squad that will represent South Africa at the continental showpiece. Moodaly-Salgado is delighted to rejoin Dr. Ellis's team.
"Yes, obviously I haven't been part of the team for a while. I am very excited to be back and will be wearing the national team colours. Yeah, super exciting to be back and beign welcomed again. Playing with the old teammates and beign in the WAFCON setup." Moodaly-Salgado told the Sasol sponsored Banyana Banyana media team.
In Group B, Banyana Banyana will face Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire and Tanzania. The 2022 WAFCON champions will face Tanzania at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca on July 27th. The JvW Girls Football Club star says the group is one of the toughest in the tournament, and South Africa should not underestimate their opponents. Contrary to popular belief, 'Robz' believes there are no favorites to win Group B because each nation is competing on merit.
The Blue Diamonds skipper argues that there are no favourites to win Group B "We can't take any team lightly. We are doing our homework. We are preparing for every team we take each game as it comes."
South Africa finished fourth in the previous edition, losing 4-3 on penalties to third-place Ghana. The 32-year-old midfielder believes Banyana must use the lessons learned from the previous tournament to improve in the upcoming one. The top four finishing teams will automatically qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
"It is very important (to win the Group.) Because, if we top our group. It will put us on a high tone for the rest of the tournament." Wrapped Moodaly-Salgado.
