Sukazi: We Belong Amongst The Top Contenders

By Malose Wa Ga Lamola

Duduzile Sukazi, the chairlady of TS Galaxy Queens, claims that the team strengthened its roster in preparation for the 2025 Hollywoodbets Super League season in order to take against Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, the reigning league champions.

"I'm extremely proud of the team. Competing so closely with a side like Sundowns Ladies shows how far TS Galaxy Queens have come in a short space of time. The consistency, discipline, and fighting spirit the players have shown throughout the season has been remarkable. While we always aim higher, this campaign has proven that we belong among the top contenders in women’s football, and it has laid a very strong foundation for what we are building going forward." Said Sukazi

To make sure they are prepared to pose a significant challenge to the Brazilians' dominance, The Rockets made high-profile acquisitions. Sukazi maintains that the club's goal to be competitive until the season's last game drove the acquisition of seasoned campaigners Refiloe Jane and Leandra Smeda.

"The objective was very clear: to raise the standard within the squad both on and off the field. Refiloe Jane brings invaluable experience, leadership, and a winning mentality, while Leandra Smeda adds quality, composure, and tactical intelligence. These signings were not just about names, but about mentorship, professionalism, and accelerating the development of our younger players as we continue to grow as a club." Sukazi emphasized.

Following their 2019 Nedbank Cup victory, TS Galaxy's men's team experienced continental football. The Kwa-Nongoma born sports administrator, claims she is prepared to follow in the footsteps of the men's squad and guide her team into the CAF Women's Champions League competition.

"Absolutely. Taking TS Galaxy Queens into continental football is a clear ambition for us. The men’s team has shown what is possible with the right structure, belief, and long-term planning. For the Queens, the focus is on building sustainably, strengthening our squad depth, and competing consistently at the highest level. When the opportunity comes, we want to be fully prepared to represent the club and South African women’s football with pride on the continent." Promised Sukazi.

In group B of the forthcoming Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Banyana Banyana will face Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, and Tanzania. According to Sukazi, the 2022 African champions have a strong chance of winning the group, and she thinks South Africa has what it takes to succeed and restore their position as the continent's queens.

"Qualifying for three consecutive WAFCON tournaments speaks volumes about the growth and resilience of Banyana Banyana. Finishing fourth last time was a strong showing, and I believe the team will go into the next edition with greater belief, experience, and hunger. Group B will be competitive, but Banyana have the quality, tactical discipline, and tournament experience to top the group. If they approach each match with focus and intensity, they are more than capable of progressing deep into the tournament and challenging for the title." Wrapped Sukazi.
