Motaung: Chiefs Presence Will Elevate The Game
By Malose Wa Ga Lamola
Jessica Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs marketing director, is pleased to see such a large turnout to support women's football.
On Sunday afternoon, the Naturena-based outfit made their Gauteng Sasol League debut against the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies at Tsakane Stadium. Supporters flocked to the East Rand to support both teams. The Kaizer Chiefs dominated the stands.
“It is good to be here. What a great day. A social day. This is not only about Kaizer Chiefs. But women's football. Where women's football could go. Everybody wanted to be here, and they were. I think it's one of the largest attendances in women's games, so it's making history in that regard. Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns supporters came in their numbers, and it's just Tsakane. That is a statement that women's football is here, and that's a reality.” Motaung Praised.
Despite Kaizer Chiefs Ladies' two-nil defeat to the Brazilians, Motaung was pleased with the attendance. Motaung, speaking on the pitchside after the game, said the team received overwhelming support in their debut match.
"Very proud of the ladies here. It's the first time for the Kaizer Chiefs team, and they are playing against Sundowns. Sundowns has been in the league. So I'm very proud that they could hold their own and played as hard as they could. Not a great scoreline, but a great start." Said Motaung.

Motaung has long considered forming a women's team. The marketing guru smiled broadly as she reflected on the journey and the moment of pride she felt as she saw Kaizer Chiefs take the field for the first time in the club's history. The former South African second princess in beauty pageants believes that Kaizer Chiefs Ladies' participation in the Gauteng Sasol League will help to elevate women's football in the country.
"South African women's football is now taking a new trajectory. With us now in the Gauteng Sasol League, we are ready to take women's football to the next level.” Emphasized Motaung.
