Hollywoodbets Super League Young player and Players' Player of the season awards recipient, Bonolo Mokoma, at the end of the season awards ceremony held in Midrand.
Bonolo Mokoma, an attacker for Banyana and JVW Girls Football, talks to ShakingInk about her outstanding performance in the 2025 Hollywoodbets Super League.
Despite having an outstanding 2025 season, Mokoma, lost the Footballer of the Season award to Leandra Smeda. Smeda, a seasoned combatant, beat Mokoma in both the best-performing player and leading goalscorer charts. Mokoma was six goals behind with sixteen, while Smeda smashed the back of the net twenty-two times. Mokoma claims that she is pleased with her performances from the previous season and that she can only improve upon them in the upcoming campaign.
"I’d describe my 2025 campaign as a season of growth and consistency. I set clear goals for myself at the start of the season, and I’m proud that I managed to contribute to the team in meaningful ways. Of course it would have been wonderful to win the award, but credit to Leandra for a great season. For me, it’s more about the progress I’ve made and how I’ve improved my game overall." Said Mokoma.

Although Mokoma did not receive the player of the season award, she was chosen as the players' player of the season by her peers. Mokoma's status as one of the league's top players was confirmed by the players themselves. Mokoma tells this publication that she is pleased that other players thought she was the league's most valuable player.
"That recognition honestly means a lot to me. Being voted for by players you compete with and against every week is very special because they understand the effort and discipline that go into the game. It’s a huge honour and definitely motivates me to keep pushing and improving and it shows that we celebrate each other and we not jealous." Mokoma.
At JvW Girls Football, something significant is developing. Former teammate Jessica Wade took home the Midfielder of the Season title, while Mokoma was named the Players' Player of the Season. The star, who was born in Polokwane, gives appreciation to the technical team and colleagues for encouraging them to work extra shifts at training in order to get better.
"I think it comes down to the environment at JvW Girls Football. There’s a strong culture of hard work and the support for one another. The coaching staff really believe in us and as players we push each other to be better every day. Seeing Jessica succeed as well just shows the level of quality and commitment within the team." Said Mokoma.

Namibia defeated Banyana Banyana for the COSAFA title. Given that the Banyana technical team has acknowledged that the regional competition served as a warm-up for the now-postponed Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which was scheduled to take place in Morocco this month, logic dictates that the team's spirits would have been lowered after losing to Namibia in the final. Mokoma, however, has a different perspective on this situation.
"It was obviously a disappointing moment for us because we always aim to win. But at the same time it was also a learning experience. The mood in camp was focused we reflected on what went wrong and what we needed to improve. As a team we used that setback as motivation to come back stronger. It also gives us time for us to be more prepared with our preseason and I think people will also work on the fitness and I think as a team we will build more chemistry together." Mokoma assures.
Football fans were disappointed when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that this year's women's elite football competition on the continent will now take place in July instead of March. According to Mokoma, the team concentrated on getting ready for the competition and blocking out outside noise. Mokoma claims that the team's mood was affected when CAF confirmed that the event had been rescheduled.
"It was an adjustment for everyone but in football you have to be adaptable. On a positive note it gave us more time to prepare, recover and work on areas we wanted to improve. As players we stayed professional and focused making sure we remain ready for when the tournament comes." Mokoma wrapped.
