Dhlamini: We Want To Go To Brazil

By Malose Wa Ga Lamola

Karabo Dhlamini, the Hollywoodbets Super League defender of the season, tells ShakingInk about her rise to popularity and credits her best defender accolade to hard effort and support from her teammates.

"It's an honor to receive this award. The rewards of my hard effort in training. My coaches and teammates were encouraging me and the rest of the team to work harder and help the team." said Dhlamini.

Though the Brazilians have been a domestic force to be reckoned with, the 2021 Women's CAF Champions League winners were left out of the 2025 continental top club football competition. Dhlamini says missing out on Champions League football has been sad for the team, but they are looking forward to returning in the next edition.

"Yeah, missing out on the CAF Champions League last year was quite heartbreaking. However, as a team, we cannot focus on the past. We were hurt by that, but now we are more focused on winning the Hollywoodbets COSAFA competition; only then will we consider the Champions League. The first stage toward the Champions League is winning COSAFA. This year, we will ensure that we qualify for the Champions League." Illustrated Dhlamini.

Dhlamini, widely known as 'Gundi' in football circles, believes South Africa will improve on their fourth-place performance in the previous Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and make it to the final. The major goal is to make it to the final four and qualify for the FIFA Women's World Cup.

"We don't need to think ahead of ourselves. The first step is to get out of the group. The aim is to make it to the knockout phase. The major goal, however, is to get to the tournament's semifinals. Because making it to the semi-finals means qualifying for the FIFA Women's World Cup. Then, after the semifinals, everything is conceivable." Wrapped Dhlamini.
