Ellis: It Is A Test Banyana Needs
By Malose Wa Ga Lamola
Banyana Banyana has friendly matches against top-ranked international football teams thanks to the South African Football Association (SAFA).
On Friday, the South African senior women's national team will play Denmark at the Aalborg Portland Park stadium in Aalborg, Denmark. Four days days later, they will travel to England to play the Lionesses. In order to prepare for the upcoming African Women's Cup of Nations, which will take place in Morocco in June 2025, Banyana's coach, Desiree Ellis, wants to put Banyana to the test against these rivals.
“We will be looking at our all-round performance because we are looking at a bigger picture, which is to retain our title as African Champions next year. Although four of our international players couldn’t get the visas to Denmark due to residency permits, I believe we have quality in the camp, and they will be able to meet our objectives tomorrow." Ellis told SAFA.net
Ellis is certain that the players in camp will provide Banyana a preview of what she needs to improve on, even though she is missing some of the important players. The African champions most recent match was against Senegal in June.
“We haven’t played since early June when we faced Senegal, so we are happy to regroup for these two big tests (against Denmark and England). I am satisfied with how the players committed to our training session yesterday and really showed enthusiasm for this tour in Europe. This match is good because it will remind us of our strengths and help us build as a team. We are very good defensively and we know that Denmark will test us in this area,” said Dr Ellis.
